Pigmented lesions also known as brown spots, age spots or lentigines, are flat, brown discolorations that occur on the skin as a result of prolonged and repeated sun exposure.

The spots often manifest themselves on the face, back of the hands, and the neck.

They usually appear later in adult life and while harmless and painless, they can be cosmetically annoying and make skin look older.

Their appearance can be significantly reduced with the laser treatments.

Microdermabrasion

Why would I need a microdermabrasion?

As children, we are constantly exfoliating our dead skins cell, which is what gives children their “youthful glow”. As adults, we tend to “hold onto” our dead facial skin cells thus creating a dried, tired, dull appearance. A microdermabrasion helps to restore and “re-new” your skin, giving it a healthier appearance.       What are the benefits to microdermabrasion?   Exfoliation has more benefits that you might know. Besides leaving your skin softer and smoother, the friction also boosts your circulation and helps unclog pores. If you have an area that is especially prone to blackheads, be sure to spend a little time gently exfoliating the area. Your facial treatments become more effective and your home care skin products can penetrate and thus produce better results.

Is the procedure new?

Microdermabrasion has been used successfully for years in Europe and is now one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in our country.

Our office uses the HydraFacial™ MD Crystal Free Microdermabrasion System because of its quality, dependability and results.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive exfoliating procedure performed individually or in a series for revitalizing and maintaining the skin’s appearance and smoothness. It can be used to address problem areas on the face or body. One session generally takes 30-60 minutes depending on the treatment. There is no special preparation before the visit or any recuperation after.

How does it work?

A crystal free tip especially selected for your skin type is directed onto the skin to loosen the layer of dead skin cells that form on the surface to reveal fresh invigorated skin. Typically, only the uppermost layer of the skin, the stratum corneum, is removed. This is why there is minimal discomfort and virtually no recuperation.

What results can I expect?

Improving dull or uneven skin color;

Relieving clogged pores and blackheads;

Softening general roughness or thickened patches of dead skin;

Refining the appearance of fine lines, large pores, acne and hyper pigmentation;

Removing surface debris allows the skin to better absorb topical medications;

Increasing circulation for a natural glow;

Overall more youthful appearance of your skin.

Does Microdermabrasion replace other procedures?

Microdermabrasion is a valuable skin care tool itself but does not take the place of, but rather enhances many other therapeutic skin care procedures and products.

Are there any side effects?

The procedure may impart a slight redness to the skin but this will subside within a few hours. Although uncommon, some patients may experience blushing of the skin from increased blood flow, which will fade gradually over a day or two.

Is Microdermabrasion for everyone?

Almost everyone could benefit from microdermabrasion, except patients who are taking certain medications or who have an inflammatory skin condition may need to postpone treatment. Doctor Mandel will advise you.

 What is HydraFacial?

HydraFacial is a NEW breakthrough in aesthetic technology. The HydraFacial takes its name from the root word Hydrate: "to cause to take up moisture". This ability to moisturize the skin separates the HydraFacial from all other skin-resurfacing procedures. The HydraFacial removes dead skin cells and impurities while simultaneously bathing the new skin with cleansing, hydrating and moisturizing serums. The treatment is soothing, refreshing, non-irritating and immediately effective.

Why is HydraFacial good for my skin?

Hydration is the foundation of healthy, radiant skin. Irritation of the skin has been proven to increase the signs of aging. The Hydrafacial is a hydrating & non-irritating treatment.

Am I a candidate for the Hydrafacial treatment?

The HydraFacial treatment is designed for all skin types. Even the most sensitive skin easily tolerates the HydraFacial treatment. Dr. Mandel will blend the treatment serums for your unique skin conditions.

Is there more than one HydraFacial treatment?

We offer several ways that you can benefit from a HydraFacial treatment including the addition of masks, peels or and added exfoliation.

How long does the treatment take? Is there any downtime or pain?

The HydraFacial treatment is a fast, efficient treatment. There is no discomfort during the procedure - it is often described as feeling like a "cool paintbrush moving slowly over the face". You may put on make-up and return to your normal activities right after the treatment since there is no downtime.

What results may be expected? How many HydraFacial treatments are needed to see results? How long do the results last?

Almost everyone reports seeing visible skin refinement and an even, radiant skin tone after just one treatment. A series of six treatments could be recommended to correct certain skin conditions. Doctor Mandel will assist you in preparing a healthy skin regimen and treatment plan.

HydraFacial can help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, hyperactive pigmentation, and oily/acne-prone skin. After your first series of treatments, you may want to maintain your results with a HydraFacial treatment every two to four weeks.
